We are excited to announce an opportunity for youth to create a children’s book on Food Justice.

Theme: What would you do to end hunger?

This writing initiative aims to raise awareness about the importance of ensuring all people have access to healthy food and inspire Black youth to use the literary arts to create social change.

We are inviting all Black youth living in Minnesota to share their story with us. We will then turn the winning submissions into a children’s picture book to be shared in libraries and classrooms.

It is an opportunity for youth to become reading ambassadors and leaders in their communities.

 

 
 

We welcome submissions before the October 31, 2023 deadline from those:

  • Black youth under 25

  • living in Minnesota

We welcome submissions for an original children’s book:

  • ages 0-4 (50-125 words)

  • ages 4–8 (300–800 words) 

Writing prompt:

  • What would you do to end hunger?

  • What does it mean to build a healthy community?

  • Why is healthy food important for all?

winner will receive:

  • $1,000

  • a copy of the published book
