What We Do

Planting People Growing Justice Leadership Institute is committed to supporting literacy, promoting youth leadership development initiatives, and preserving cultural heritage in Ghana.

YOUTH LEADERSHIP SUMMIT

PPGJLI hosts an annual leadership summit at the Senchi Ferry Library. Our team uses our R.I.S.E. leadership framework to support youth as they learn, grow, and lead. We provide practical leadership development training, career coaching, and mentorship

LEADERS ARE READERS INITIATIVE

PPGJLI promotes reading and diversity in books. In furtherance of this goal, we have donated hundreds of books to Ghanaian children and families. These books focus on promoting representation and celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the African Diaspora.

We also partner with libraries and schools to diversify their bookshelves. We donate books written by authors of African descent and host author visits.

SANKOFA TRIPS

Returning to Africa is a Sankofa moment. Sankofa reflects the philosophy of “go back and fetch it.” It also means “we must return to the source.” With each visit, our PPGJLI founder, Dr. Tyner, recaptures her cultural heritage and pride. She sees a reflection of her ancestors who paved the way for her very existence through their hard work, fierce determination, and unwavering faith.

Dr. Tyner returns to the source of her history and finds renewed strength. She shares this gift with others. She travels to Africa with community members, educators, and business leaders. She hopes that they too will experience Sankofa by discovering our shared humanity and common destiny.
